Review Workspace apps in the Gemini app admin console

We’re writing to let you know that the Google Workspace apps (formerly Google Workspace extensions) setting in the Gemini app will transition from beta to general availability (GA) by the end of April 2025.

This change will enable the Gemini app to interact with Calendar, Docs, Drive, Gmail, Keep, and Tasks, providing more context to your prompts.

We’ve provided additional information below about this change.

What this means for your organization​

Key Change:
When the Workspace apps setting becomes generally available, it will be turned “ON” by default. This will override the current Workspace apps Beta setting.

Potential Impact:
Starting today, admins can now configure the new “Allow access to Workspace apps after Beta (upcoming general availability)” setting in preparation for the GA rollout. This setting is available under the existing Workspace apps Beta settings.

What you need to do​

No action is required if you want Workspace apps to remain “ON” for users with the Gemini app enabled.

Advised Actions:

• Review and update the Workspace apps setting before the GA to prepare for this change. If you don’t take any action, all users in your organization will automatically have access to Workspace apps in the Gemini app after GA.
• If you have customized settings for the Workspace apps in Gemini by user, group, or organizational unit (OU) and want to retain them after GA, apply your current settings to the new “Allow access to Workspace apps after Beta (upcoming general availability)” setting.

Note: This update will have no impact on your current Gemini app service setting.
