The smartwatch market is getting more crowded by the day. Brands are throwing their hats into the ring, offering a wide range of models at various price points and with varying features. Xiaomi is no exception to this trend. In August 2023, they released the Redmi Watch 3 Active, an upgraded version of their previous Redmi Watch 3. So, what does the Redmi Watch 3 Active offer for its price? In this review, I'll take a look at the watch's design, display, battery, connectivity, sports modes, health tracking features, and voice calling capabilities.
Design
The Redmi Watch 3 Active sports a square case design. It measures 45 x 35 x 11.5mm and weighs 35 grams. The case is made of plastic and is water-resistant up to 5ATM, meaning it can withstand submersion in water up to 50 meters deep. On the right side of the watch, you'll find a single button that's used to turn the screen on and off, access the menu, and go back. On the left side, there's a microphone for making voice calls. The back of the watch houses the heart rate sensor, blood oxygen saturation sensor, and charging pins.
The straps are easily removable and replaceable, allowing you to personalize your look with different color options. The overall design of the watch is simple yet stylish, making it suitable for both casual and sporty wear.
Display
The Redmi Watch 3 Active features a 1.83-inch 60Hz IPS LCD display. The display offers a colorful and bright viewing experience.
Battery
The Redmi Watch 3 Active packs a 289mAh battery. In my experience, the battery lasted me a full 7 days on a single charge, which is more than enough for me.
Connectivity
The Redmi Watch 3 Active connects to smartphones via Bluetooth 5.3. It works with the MI Fitness app, which is compatible with both Android and iOS operating systems. The app allows you to manage the watch's settings, themes, notifications, data, and more. It also provides access to features that aren't available on the watch itself. For instance, the app displays sleep tracking, stress level, blood oxygen saturation, step count, calorie burn, sports modes, heart rate, and more in graphs and statistics. You can also use the app to update, back up, and restore the watch.
The watch can also display notifications from your smartphone. It supports notifications from calls, messages, emails, social media, news, weather, calendar, alarms, and more. Notifications are displayed on the screen and accompanied by vibrations. You can read notifications on the watch, but you can't reply to them.
Voice Calling
The Redmi Watch 3 Active also boasts voice calling capabilities. When connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth, you can use the microphone on the left side of the watch to make voice calls.
Sports Modes
The Redmi Watch 3 Active offers over 100 sports modes. It supports a wide range of activities, including running, walking, cycling, swimming, yoga, pilates, dancing, basketball, football, tennis, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, cricket, golf, skiing, climbing, skating, boxing, jump rope, aerobics, and more. The watch records and displays sports mode data in the app. The app presents sports mode data in graphs and statistics, allowing you to compare your performance over different time periods and even share it on social media. For its price, the watch's sports modes are quite diverse and comprehensive.
Health Tracking
The Redmi Watch 3 Active also comes with health tracking features. It can measure blood oxygen saturation, track heart rate, monitor sleep, and assess stress levels.
Verdict
For its price, the Redmi Watch 3 Active is a pretty solid smartwatch. It features a design suitable for both casual and sporty wear, a colorful and bright display, a long-lasting battery, over 100 sports modes, advanced health tracking features, and voice calling capabilities.
