AI in game creation is now allowed on Steam, as per their updated policy

0

Valve, the game publisher, has recently introduced new guidelines that allow Steam developers to release games that utilize AI technology. This decision comes after previous controversies surrounding game rejections.

Following previous rejections of AI-generated game submissions, Valve’s policy shift has sparked confusion and controversy among developers. Creators are required to disclose the use of pre-generated AI content, such as art and sound, if they use AI. They must also ensure that it is legal and does not infringe any rights. On Steam’s game store pages, you will now find information about AI in games, and players have the option to report any illegal AI-generated content. SAG-AFTRA, the actor’s union, has made an agreement with Replica Studios to establish rules for licensing AI voice acting in video games.

The news might anger a significant portion of creatives who perceive AI as a destructive force, but it was inevitable that a total ban on utilizing a tool that enhances development wouldn’t last. As technology advances and copyright battles persist, enforcing policies will continue to pose difficulties.
