AI-driven robot helps in building a BMW

Figure AI, an OpenAI-supported startup, has presented Figure 02, its new AI-powered humanoid robot. This robot is designed to work autonomously in intricate environments, including BMW factories.

Figure 02 shows how OpenAI’s AI models help the humanoid robot engage in full conversations with people through speech-to-speech reasoning. It uses a Vision Language Model (VLM) to make fast, sensible choices based on what it sees and to fix its mistakes. The robot has six RGB cameras that give it a complete view of its surroundings. It is 5’6″ tall, weighs 132 lbs, can lift up to 44 lbs, and operates for 20 hours with a special 2.25 KWh battery.

The competition in humanoid robots is heating up. Figure CEO Brett Adcock says that Figure 02 is the “most advanced humanoid on the planet,” directly challenging Elon Musk and Tesla’s Optimus. Now, everyone is waiting to see how Elon will respond. Figure also has a strong advantage with its partnership with OpenAI.
