Apple is said to have cut back on the self-driving technology and postponed the release of its secret electric vehicle project, ‘Project Titan,’ to 2028 or later, facing pressure from the board after years of slow development.
Initially, the car was designed to have cutting-edge self-driving technology, including the absence of a steering wheel and pedals, with a launch date in 2026. However, the autonomous features are now being downgraded to a ‘Level 2+’ system, which will provide basic driver assistance similar to Tesla’s Autopilot. This shift is critical for the car’s success after almost ten years of changes and setbacks.
The downgrade emphasizes the serious challenges Apple has experienced in moving its hardware success into the automotive world. Although the project is still advancing, Apple is not likely to take the lead in self-driving technology anytime soon.
