Wing presents new, larger drone for deliveries

A new aircraft model has been launched by Wing, the drone delivery subsidiary of Alphabet. This upgraded model has the capability to carry loads weighing up to 5 pounds, which is double the capacity of their previous 2.5-pound fleet.

The drone has a maximum speed of 65 miles per hour and can cover a roundtrip distance of 12 miles on just one charge. By offering transportation for meal kits, pizzas, and bundles of household goods, Wing strives to make deliveries more efficient, eliminating the need for two separate 2.5-pound aircraft. The CEO of Wing, Adam Woodworth, revealed that the company will be launching a new drone capable of carrying up to 5 pounds. This drone will be gradually introduced across different service areas over the course of the next 12 months.

The variety of packages that Wing can deliver has greatly increased with this boost, but oversized items are still not possible. With the rapid advancements in AI and robotics, it’s almost certain that drones will soon be handling the majority of deliveries.
