HoloTile floor by Disney enables immersive shared VR experiences

The HoloTile floor, showcased by Disney Imagineer Lanny Smoot, lets multiple people engage in shared virtual reality experiences. It’s like a treadmill for virtual reality!

HoloTile uses spinning tiles to imitate realistic movement in VR without users having to leave the floor space. Collaborative VR sightseeing, games, training, and other applications with natural walking motion can be experienced through the surface. According to Smoot, HoloTile has a lot of potential at Disney’s parks and venues. It can be used as a stage insert for new and exciting dance performances or for making dynamic set changes.

Could this be a major step forward for more realistic and interactive virtual reality? With advancements in robotics and AI, as well as the growing popularity of headsets like the Vision Pro, we might be entering a new era of VR similar to what we’ve seen in ‘Ready Player One’.
