Smart contact lenses keep track of glaucoma

GlakoLens, developed by Northumbria University researchers, are contact lenses with sensors to track eye pressure changes for glaucoma diagnosis.

In the trial, one of the pilot study volunteers wore a contact lens.

A soft lens and wireless system are employed by the technology to collect and analyze pressure data continuously for 24 hours. By constantly monitoring, natural fluctuations can be captured more accurately compared to single in-office measurements, resulting in improved detection. With minimal symptoms and a slow progression, glaucoma is not easy to detect early on. Fortunately, GlakoLens simplifies the process by providing constant and effortless measurements.

The pilot study included pictures of two participants.

The field of wearable medical devices is on the verge of a major breakthrough with the integration of new technologies, AI, and robotics. These groundbreaking innovations, like the lenses mentioned, will revolutionize the way we diagnose and monitor various health conditions, making the process quicker and less invasive.
